Climbers: Have Your Voice Heard!
Take this survey and show decision-makers that rock climbing matters in Pennsylvania.
What’s going on?
Every five years, states across the nation are required to produce a new statewide recreation plan to help guide their recreation policies, programs, and investments.
Pennsylvania is in the process of updating its own plan (Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan – SCORP) and is requesting public input through a survey.
Why does it matter?
- The survey results shape the recommendations, action items, and funding priorities for PA’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) – the state agency responsible for conservation and outdoor recreation across PA.
- A strong showing by climbers will solidify our power as a user group as well as demonstrate our commitment to working with the state to advance rock climbing opportunities.
Background
The 2020-2024 SCORP survey brought rock climbing to the forefront. The PA Local Climbing Organizations (of which SWPACC is one) were able to take advantage of this recognition of rock climbing and more fully engage with DCNR. This resulted in many meetings, recommendations and the formation of the Climbing Action Team within DCNR to help drive discussions and policy about climbing. We want to continue that momentum and your participation in the survey can help.
How you can help
- Please take the survey before May 22. Rock Climbing is listed under activities so be sure to check that box!
- Share this with your friends. Even if they are not climbers, it is important for the state to get feedback from everyone – whether they are current recreation enthusiasts or will be in the future! If they live out of state then that is fine too. People travel to recreate in PA.
